Expansion course: In June, the Austrian transport and logistics group Gebrüder Weiss (GW) opened a branch in Shenzhen which now is the third site in the Pearl River Delta – a region currently experiencing an economic boom. At the beginning of December, the GW network in Asia was expanded to the mid-western region of China with a representative office in Xian. Further sites will go into operation in the coming weeks.
”It is well known that China is the new land of ‘unlimited’ opportunity. Economic growth in excess of eight per cent this year also represents a significant growth in the transport and logistics sector,” says Heinz Senger-Weiss, GW Air & Sea Manager. ”We will be opening two more sites in Chong Qing and in Chengdu in the coming weeks. Further investments are also planned in our existing branches. The focused expansion of our logistics activities in China will be at the top of the list of the group’s activities in 2006. Having generated anticipated revenues of 70 million euros in China this year, we are planning to exceed the 100 million euros mark in 2006,” says Senger-Weiss confidently. The Gebrüder Weiss organisation
