Memmingen - 07.06.2006 00:00:00
The year 2006 started off with a bang for the Gebrüder Weiss locations in Memmingen and Lindau. Both shipment volume and sales figures recorded double-digit growth in the first quarter compared to last year. Eight new jobs have been created in response since the beginning of the year.
Anton Hagg, director of the Memmingen and Lindau branch locations, drew up an interim financial statement three months into the current fiscal year. His satisfaction is quite evident as he reports on the results: ”Compared to last year, we generated 15 percent higher sales while the number of shipments rose by 12 percent. The Western Europe traffic with England, Spain, Italy and Austria showed particular gains.”Logistics for Kunert and Schaefer
The branch director is proud of the fact that continually more of the region’s internationally active companies are deciding in favour of partnering with Gebrüder Weiss. ”Our logistics partnership with Kunert-Werke just started a few months ago and we only just recently acquired Garngroßhandel Schaefer as a new customer.” He goes on to report: ”Some other exciting logistics projects are also on the point of being realised. At the moment we are working on optimising the supply chain for a European textile trading company, meaning the full gamut from initial procurement to distribution to the customer, and including stock management and sophisticated information technology.”
Investing in the future
The logistics capacities in Memmingen are already inching toward their limits, even though the warehouse and handling areas were expanded by 1,500 square meters just last year. ”But we’re certainly quite prepared for the future volume of shipments and the increasing logistics demands,” says Hagg. ”We’re already planning the next expansion of our facility.”
The Gebrüder Weiss organisation
Gebrüder Weiss, headquartered in Lauterach, Vorarlberg (Austria), employs close to 3,900 people at 134 locations worldwide. The logistics company recorded sales of EUR 789 million in fiscal year 2005.
