Only 5 years have past since Gebrüder Weiss opened its branch in Memmingen. Backed by positive developments over this time, groundbreaking of the new four million euro expansion project commenced on March 5th. The installation of a photovoltaic array means that the new building will help play a part in the reduction of CO² emissions. After the completion of construction work in Autumn of 2007, GW Memmingen will have more than 10,000 m² of warehouse and cargo handling space at its disposal as well as have created more than 100 new jobs. Employees and local government officials already had a chance to take a look at the unfinished building during the topping out ceremony on July 6.
GW – A Strong Partner for the Environment
Installing the photovoltaic array to the roof of the new building is yet another example of the company's active commitment to protecting the environment, in this case by putting the desire to make a contribution to lasting environmental protection through the reduction of CO² emissions ahead of purely economic justifications. "Gebrüder Weiss wants more "Orange" to come to Memmingen, not more pollution,” says Anton Hagg, Manager of the GW branches in Memmingen and Lindau.
Growing to Fit the Needs of the Customer
The new building will also have new office and staff rooms in addition to the larger storage capacities. 1,000 pallet points will soon be serving as a storage area for dangerous goods at the new facility. Underground parking will take care of parking needs. "With our additional capacities we can offer our existing and future customers even more service possibilities in transport and logistics and this makes us in an even stronger partner for everything to do with logistics," said Anton Hagg at the topping out ceremony. As GW expands its operations, it is also growing to fit the needs of the customer. "We look forward to the new projects and challenges," says Hagg.
