Gebrüder Weiss enforces its Eastern Europe Network through Acquisition of M&G
Leading Slovak forwarding and express service is now part of the GW Group
The Vorarlberg Logistics group Gebrüder Weiss took over the two Slovak companies M&G Expres Spedition and M&G Spedition on 16 March. M&G Expres is one of the leading companies in the area of national goods distribution in Slovakia. Both companies together employ a total of 248 employees at 17 locations. Presently some 650 employees are working in the 10 countries of the Eastern Europe network of the GW group.
”As one of the top players in the national distribution of Slovakia, M&G perfectly complements our effective logistics network in Central and Eastern Europe. We therefore expect a further increase in growth and of the profitability of our MOE Organisation”, explains Wolfgang Niessner, Chairman to the Gebrüder Weiss Board of Directors, during the signing of the contract. According to Niessner, the acquistion of the two M&G companies represents the largest company takeover in the history of the GW group to date and demonstrates the family company’s growth policy in line with the requirements of rapidly growing logistics markets ”We will continue the strong expansion of our service network in Eastern Europe over the next few years.”M&G Expres Spedition s.r.o. operates a national distribution system with approx. 182 employees, M&G Spedition concentrates on international goods traffic with approx. 66 employees. Juraj Gros, one of the M&G founders, explains the underlying reasons for the sale: ”In order to remain successful among the tough European competition our companies were simply to small. As part of the GW group our branch network and our dedicated team of employees which my partner Peter Menczer and I have built up over the last 15 years are well-equipped for the future.
”In the sense of slimmer and quicker processes we intend to quickly combine the strengths of M&G Spedition, i.e. the area of international shipping, with the efforts of the Slovak Gebrüder Weiss organisation”, Thomas Moser, the responsible GW regional head, outlines the planned measures in the next months. The national network, i.e. M&G Expres Spedition s.r.o., will first only be linked to the GW group in the administrative area, according to Moser.
Silence was agreed on regarding the purchase price. The realization of the purchase has been planned after meeting certain conditions by the end of March.
The Gebrüder Weiss organisation
Gebrüder Weiss has its headquarters based in Lauterach in Vorarlberg (Austria) and employs a total workforce of approximately 3,500 people at over 100 locations worldwide. In the last financial year the Austrian logistics company generated revenues amounting to 708 million euros.
